LICENSING

·         Q: Can I load CADVANCE on a Home computer for Home use, or on a laptop for use in the field?

·         A: Yes, each licensed copy of CADVANCE may also be installed on one home computer and/or laptop computer with the absolute condition of “no simultaneous use” with your CAVANCE station in your office.  To use on your home/laptop computer, you must rename your ComputerName to that of your office computer, then re-start your machine, else you have to receive a new Authorization code from F I T, which requires certain service charges.

To rename your machine running Windows 95/98/Me:

    • Go to Start / Settings / ControlPanel / Network
    • Click the "Identification" tab, then change the ComputerName to the exact same name as your office desktop
    • Re-start your computer.
    • The same serial number and authorization will now work

To rename your machine running Windows NT:

    • Go to Start / Settings / ControlPanel / Network
    • Click the "Identification" tab
    • Click on the "Change" button
    •  Change the ComputerName to the exact same name as your office desktop
    • Re-start your computer.
    • The same serial number and authorization will now work

To rename your machine running Windows 2000:

    • Open My Computer / Control Panel / System
    • Click on the Network Identification tab
    • Click on the "Properties" button
    •  Change the ComputerName to the exact same name as your office desktop

LINE WEIGHTS

  • Q:   How do I print with Line Weights?  When I print, my lines are light with no weight.
  • A:  There are two ways to print lines with weights:

By Color

    • Go to File / Print.  Under "Line Weight" set the main line weight size.  Ex. 0.2"
    • Press the "Colors" button.  For colors in your drawing, set each to a number.  This will multiply it times the line weight size.

Ex. If your line weight size in the Printer Configuration Dialog is 0.2" and you set pink (color #6) to 2, all pink objects will print with the line weight of: (0.2) x (2) = 0.4 inches.

By Line

    • Type "S" on your keyboard to enter the Setup window
    • Type in a value for "Weight", set the main line weight size.  Ex. 0.0017".
    • For lines drawn with a certain "Weight" in the Setup window, CADVANCE will multiply 0.0017" times the value of that weight.

Ex. If you set the weight to 3 in the "Setup" window, CADVANCE will print any subsequent lines drawn with the value (0.0017") x (3) = 0.0042 inches.

Note:  In CADVANCE 2000 you can also set line weights by layer

  • Q: Where can I change the line weight that appears in Setup box.
  • A: Options\Miscellaneous.

  • Q: How do I change line weights?
  • A: Select the object you wish to change. Go to Edit/Properties. Change the value in lower right corner which says weight.

LINE WEIGHTS - DISPLAY

  • Q: Line weights are not displaying on the monitor.
  • A: In Options\Miscellaneous check the display line weights box.

  • Q: I don't see an entry in CADVANCE.INI for Display Line Weight.  Why?
  • A: "Display Line Weights" On/Off setting is saved in the drawing, not in Cadvance.ini.  There is no setting in Cadvance.ini for Display Line Weights.

LINESTYLES

  • Q: When I import a *.dwg, I lose linestyles.
  • A: When importing a *.dwg, Line types are created and added to the CAD.INS file if the line types are not found in CAD.LNS during import. If the total number of line styles translated is greater than 16, any object drawn with an overflow line type is assigned line type 0 (CONTINUOUS).  Linetype names are preserved, with the following exceptions:
    CONTINUOUS --> SOLID
    DASHED --> DASH

For more information, please refer to the CADVANCE Manual.
Line style translation has not changed since CADVANCE Version 7.
If you have a problem with DWG conversion, you may send it to us for support.

  • Q: When I try to enter a linestyle name in Options / Line Style, I get the warning message "Undefined Linestyle".
  • ACAD.LNS (LNS stands for "Line Style") is the controlling file for line styles in CADVANCE.  Each line style in CAD.LNS has a maximum syntax of 40 characters.  You need to reduce the number of characters in that line.  Also, each line style name has a maximum number of 8 characters.  If yours has more, you need to make a shorter name for the line style in CAD.LNS.

  • Q: My line styles are all printing SOLID.
  • AIf ALL line styles (not just DASH and DOT) are printing SOLID, you may need to change your setting in CAD.LNS, the linestyle file used by CADVANCE.  You may also want to change the scale of your drawing when printed.

For example, in CAD.LNS you may have the PHANTOM linestyle set as follows:

PHANTOM|F(-- - - --)4,.01

Through trial and error, keep adding more spaces between the parentheses () until the problem is resolved.

To change the drawing scale, go into Options / Unit and change the "Drawing Scale".  Experiment with different scales to resolve the problem.

To change the printed scale, go to File / Print.  In the Printer Configuration dialog box, you will see the "Scale" section in the upper right.  Change the "By Value" until the problem is resolved.

  • Q: After saving an older version .vwf drawing to v2000, I lost the linestyles. I would like to redefine the linestyles in Options/Linestyles but they only last for that session.
  • A: Enter the new linestyle you want in Cad.lns. Do this with a text editor and save the file. Re-enter CADVANCE. In Options/Linestyles enter the name of your new custom linestyle. Save your drawing. The linestyle information is now saved with the drawing.

  • Q: I have a drawing in which I can only draw horizontal and vertical lines.
  • A: By clicking the Line Style Box on the Status bar you can access the 'Setup' dialog Window. In the line angle field, you need to set this value to 0.

  • Q: Using the two internal line styles DOT and DASH will not correctly plot when a weight is applied and the default line weight size is altered. The styles merge into SOLID lines.
  • A: Multiple line weights for DOT and DASH are not supported. This is because of capping. A cap is placed on the end of each line. This cap is a semi-circle, so as the width of the line grows, so does the height of the cap. Eventually, the drawn portions of the line merge into a solid line. The solution is to define your own dot and dash linestyles and if you are going to use them with increased weights, you'll need to make sure the separation is sufficient to account for capping.

  • Q: When I opened a drawing, the Options/Linestyles were different from what was in my Cadvance.ini file.
  • A: This is correct. The linestyles are saved in the drawing. If the drawing with the linestyles is opened in a CADVANCE where the Cad.lns doesn't contain those linestyles, the lines come in as solid.

  • Q: When printing, DASH linestyle lines are coming out solid.
  • A: You may be using a new CanonBJC4550 printer. Apparently, this driver is unable to handle the DASH linestyle. The solution is to define your own linestyles..

  • Q: I have a VWF file which originated in CV4 and was then saved in CV6.5. CV6.5 preserved the linestyles. When I saved the drawing in CV7.1, I lost the linestyles. I would like to redefine the linestyles in Options/Linestyles but they only last for that session.
  • A: Enter the new linestyle you want in Cad.lns. Do this with a DOS text editor and save the file. Reenter Windows and CADVANCE. In Options/Linestyles enter the name of your new custom linestyle. Save your drawing. The linestyle information is now saved with the drawing.

MENU

  • Q:  The drop down menu disappears too quickly before I can select what I want.  Can I change the way the Drop Down menu is displayed?
  • A:  Yes.  In Windows Explorer, go to your CADVANCE 2000 directory and open the cadvance.mnu file with a text editor.  Find "MENUSTYLE n", where n is  0 for unfolding submenus (default)
                     1 for sliding submenus
                     2 for standard submenus
                     3 for random submenus

Change setting to your preference and File/Save.
